Lots of runs and wickets in a busy weekend

Yorkshire Premier League North Divsion One West

Thorp Arch & Boston Spa I 114, Selby I 116-1

There was another early finish at Sandhill Lane on Saturday when Selby first team continued their revival with a comfortable nine wicket win over Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first but they lost a wicket with the first ball of the game when Tom Shepherd bowled Louis Toseland and they were soon 9-2 when Luke Berzins (2-24) bowled Will Morrison. Number three batsman Leo Haley then decided to attack the bowling and he fired 10 fours and a six in a rapid 54 before Harvey Johnson had him caught in the covers by Alex Bowden. The Selby bowlers regained control after the dismissal of Haley with Lee Wild taking 3-19 from his 8 overs thanks to a good catch and a neat stumping from Darrell Guy as the visitor's innings fizzled out. Ed Westmoreland (12) held up the Selby attack for a while but Alex Bowden took two quick wickets to leave the visitors 114 all out in the 33rd over.

Openers Matt Hoyle and Alex Bowden were soon scoring quickly when Selby replied and they registered a fifty partnership in only the sixth over. The fast run rate continued but with the total on 94 Oliver Walsh trapped Hoyle (29) leg before in the 12th over. Matty Clark (11*) joined Bowden and he ended proceedings with a six and a four in the 13th over with Bowden finishing unbeaten on 61, which included 6 fours and 3 sixes. Yorkshire Premier League North Division Three (Ebor)

Selby II 104-9, Crossgates I 108-1

In Division Three Selby second team had a tough afternoon at league leaders Crossgates when they went down to a nine wicket defeat.

The home side won the toss and asked Selby to bat first and they lost early wickets with the Selby batsmen having to work hard against some lively bowling. Mike Lane hit a patient 22 before he was trapped leg before by Hussian Mirza who went to take 5-13 as the visitors struggled to 61-8. There was some late resistance from Nathan Dye and James Thackray and they bravely added 37 for the ninth wicket before Dye was bowled by Manikanta Kumar for a gritty 15. On his second team debut James Thackray finished unbeaten on 22 as Selby survived the 40 overs to close on 104-9.

In reply Crossgates opener Arvindshetty Nijampure dominated their reply and he was soon scoring quickly as the Selby bowlers and fielders had to work hard. Alex Langhan did have his opening partner R. Mohammed caught by Sam Mason but that was the visitors only success as Balraj Seehra (27*) kept the runs flowing. Nijampure finished unbeaten on 62 as the Leeds side reached the victory target in the 14th over. Thanks go to match ball sponsor John Petch and Selby are at home to Hemingbrough on Saturday.

York Vale League Division One

Ovington II 64, Selby III 65-4

Selby third team are on the brink of the Division One title after they eased past second placed Ovington II by six wickets at Sandhill Lane.

Skipper Steve Sherwood won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first and they were soon losing wickets with Stan Bugg (4-13) and Dan McLoughlin (2-24) doing the damage as the home side took an early grip of the game. Will Hampel (15) and skipper Ben Busby (19) did provide some resistance but Neil Darley (4-24) joined the attack to mop up the tail as the York side were bowled out for just 64 in the 32nd over.

Chasing the small total Selby openers Isaac Leung and Tom Rich gave them a solid start and they added 23 for the first wicket before Spencer Fern had Leung (20) caught by Busby. Simon Rogerson (2-21) did take a couple of wickets including Tom Rich (18) but Ian Huddlestone finished unbeaten on 11 as Selby cruised home in the 14th over. York Vale League Division Two

Selby IV 252-7, Thorpe Willoughby II 213-6

Selby fourth team were in action on Sunday when they travelled to Thorpe Willoughby II and they were involved in a high scoring game which featured two centuries and Selby came away with a 39 run win.

Batting first after winning the toss Selby lost an early wicket when Ian Huddlestone was bowled by Lewis Smith in the first over but they soon recovered with Ben White taking control with some powerful batting. There was some good support from James Thackray (14) and Stan Bugg (13) but White went on to hit an impressive 109, which included 16 fours and 2 sixes. Iwan White kept the runs flowing when he fired ten boundaries in his 62 and Senith Ruhunuge finished unbeaten on 24 as the visitors closed on a massive 252-7. The Thorpe Willoughby bowlers and fielders worked hard with Kevin Claxton taking 3-57.

The home side made a great start to their reply with Rob Bolger and Andy Kirk putting on 84 for the first wicket before George Wells (2-23) had Bolger (28) caught behind by Ian Huddlestone. Andy Kirk punished any loose bowling and he kept Thorpe in the game with a great knock until Fabio Naccari (2-37) trapped him leg before for a superb 121, which included 18 fours and a six. Noah Smith (12), George Frary-Johnson (16) and Kieran Bolger (10*) all batted well as Thorpe Willoughby closed on a very respectable 213-6.
