Yorkshire Premier League North Divsion One West
Easingwold II 60, Selby I 61-7
Selby first team returned to winning ways on Saturday but they had to work hard to earn a three wicket win over Easingwold II in a low scoring game at Escrick Park which was dominated by the bowlers.
The start of the game was delayed by heavy rain and when it did get underway it was reduced to 34 overs per side. Easingwold batted first and openers Josh Ingram and Ethan Caisley did put on 21 for the first wicket but after Caisley (13) was dismissed by Tom Shepherd wickets began to tumble. Luke Berzins (2-23) had Ingram (11) caught by Lee Wild and Shepherd went on to take 3-24 as the visitors collapsed. Lee Wild (2-5) and Jamie Middleton (3-8) finished with impressive bowling figures as Easingwold were bowled out for 60 in the 25th over.
Chasing the small total Selby were also soon in trouble when Josh Greenlay had Matt Hoyle caught by James Postill in the first over. Alex Bowden and Matty Clark then added 24 for the second wicket but Greenlay struck again to bowl Clark (8) and shortly after he bowled Bowden (13) to reduce Selby to 28-3. Charlie Baird and Joe Bugg took the total to 40 but Lewis Medley (2-7) dismissed Baird (7) as the home side continued to struggle. Harvey Johnson hit a quick 13 but he was trapped leg before by Greenlay and two more quick wickets saw Selby slip to 58-7. It was left to Luke Berzins to hit the winning runs in the 15th over with Greenlay finishing with the fine figures of 5-27. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Tony & Madge Steward and Selby finish their season at Clifton Alliance II on Saturday.
Yorkshire Premier League North Division Three (Ebor)
Selby II 245-7, Whitkirk II 144
In Division Three Selby second team continued their good form when another impressive all round team performance earned them a 101 run win at Whitkirk II.
The Leeds side won the toss and asked Selby to bat first and the visitors made a great start thanks to openers Graham Phillips and Mike Lane who put on 84 for the first wicket before Stuart Pickles had Phillips (49) caught by Garry Wilkinson. Mike Lane went on to hit a solid 51 and useful knocks from Oliver Steward (26), Kayden Lane (13) and Isaac Leung (12) kept Selby on top. All rounder Nathan Dye again batted well and he fired 7 boundaries in a rapid unbeaten 53 and with good support from George Wells (12) he lifted the visitors to a very useful 245-7 at the close.
Whitkirk made a bad start to their reply when Rhys Roddick had Sam Martin caught by Gareth Pearce in the second over. Stewart Pickles and Ryan Hatch added 28 for the second wicket before Roddick (2-15) struck again to trap Pickles (14) leg before. Ryan Hatch and Alex Gomerson kept the Leeds side in the game with a 53 run partnership for the third wicket but after George Wells had Hatch (38) caught by Steward the innings lost momentum despite a solid 43 from Gomerson. Spinner Alex Langhan 2-15) and Nathan Dye (2-36) kept up the pressure as Whitkirk were restricted to 144-7 at the close. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Toby Pemberton and Selby finish their season at Escrick Park on Saturday when Thorp Arch & Boston Spa II are the visitors.
York Vale League Division One
Selby III 226-5, Heslington III 95
After securing the Division One title last week Selby third team finished their season in fine style with a massive 131 run win at Heslington III.
Batting first Selby made a good start with skipper Steve Sherwood and James Thackray putting on 30 for the first wicket before Jack Lawrence dismissed Sherwood (17). Number three Sam Mason then dominated the innings and he added 59 for the second wicket with Thackray who hit a solid 36. The experienced Neil Darley joined Mason and they put the visitors in total control with a third wicket partnership of 123 with both batsmen punishing any loose bowling. Mason fired 13 boundaries before he was bowled by Jack Lawrence (3-29) for a sparkling 92 and Darley finished unbeaten on 52 as Selby closed on 226-5 from their 40 overs.
In reply the York side struggled to score runs against some tight bowling from Stan Bugg (2-13) and Senitha Ruhunuge as the visitors remained on top. Opener Chris Renwick (29) held the early part of the innings together until Darren Hunter had him caught by Sam Easthill. Pamindu Dayanandage (14) and Tom Lawrence (17) did provide some resistance but Hunter went on take 5-26 from his ten overs as the visitors were bowled out for 95 in the 30th over. The third team lost only one league game all season and can now look forward to life in the Yorkshire Premier League North next season.
York Vale League Division Two
Selby IV 62, Dunnington III 63-1
Selby fourth team travelled to Dunnington on Sunday and despite the wet weather they did manage to play a 20 over game but they went down to a nine wicket defeat.
Batting first Selby were soon losing wickets with only Alfie Laverack (13) and Sam Easthill (11) reaching double figures as the visitors struggled to 32-7 with Ryan Dasari (4-3) doing the damage. There was a late revival thanks to Joe Bugg (17) but Selby were bowled out for 62 in the 15th over.
Dunnington had few problems when they replied despite good spells from the Selby bowlers and an opening partnership of 30 from Alex Ogram and Chris Magee put them on top. Joe Bugg did take a wicket when he had Magee (20) caught behind but Ogram (11*) and Callum Patterson (16*) steered Dunnington home in the 14th over. The teams were due to play the Scothern Cup Final following this game but more heavy rain saw this match abandoned.
