third team clinch the title

Yorkshire Premier League North Divsion One West

Selby I 183, Osbaldwick 185-5

Selby first team’s recent revival came to an end on Saturday when they produced a battling performance at league leaders Osbaldwick but went down to a five wicket defeat.

Selby batted first and they lost an early wicket when Tom Shepherd was caught and bowled by James Jacques in the fourth over. Rob Scarr joined Matt Hoyle and they added 64 for the second wicket before spinner James Hattee had Scarr caught for 20. Joe Bugg (14) gave Hoyle good support in a third wicket partnership of 35 and Lee Wild also kept the scoreboard ticking over in a fourth wicket partnership of 35 with Hoyle. Alex Rippon joined the attack and he eventually had Hoyle caught behind for a stylish 76, which included 8 boundaries. Spinner Dan Ellwood (2-55) had Wild (30) caught by Joe Privett and Rippon (5-34) sparked a middle order collapse but late runs were added by Darrell Guy (10), Luke Berzins (7*) and Alfie Laverack (7) as the visitors were bowled out in the last of their 50 overs for a useful 183.

The York side made a solid start to their reply but with the total on 27 Luke Berzins made the breakthrough in the eighth over when he bowled Steve Peart. In the same over wicket keeper Darrell Guy suffered a hand injury and he had to go to hospital with Sam Easthill taking over behind the stumps and Matt Bugg on as a substitute fielder. Berzins struck again to have James Peart (18) caught by Matt Hoyle but James Hattee kept the home side just on top. Berzins (4-48) then bowled Lewis Chipchase and shortly after he trapped the dangerous Hattee (41) leg before to reduce Osbaldwick to 98-4. Callum Walton and Zac Hilton both batted solidly and they added exactly 50 for the fifth wicket before Lee Wild had Walton (35) caught by Berzins but Selby were unable to make any more breakthroughs. The visitors worked hard but Hilton (35*) and James Jacques (10*) then guided Osbaldwick home in the 41st over which keeps them at the top of the table. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Percy & Barbara Gouldsbrough and Selby play Easingwold II at Escrick Park on Saturday.

Yorkshire Premier League North Division Three (Ebor)

Hemingbrough I 92, Selby II 95-1

In Division Three Selby second team bounced back from last week's defeat at Crossgates with a nine wicket win over local rivals Hemingbrough at Sandhill Lane.

Batting first after winning the toss Hemingbrough lost openers Rob Peet (10) and Charlie Brackley (16) when they were both dismissed by Rhys Roddick who went on to take 3-26 from his seven overs. Nathan Coates (22) held up the Selby attack with some solid batting until he was bowled by George Wells who took 2-9 from his six overs. Nathan Dye (4-24) once again expertly mopped up the tail as the visitors were bowled out for 92 in the 30th over.

In reply Selby openers Graham Phillips and Matty Clark were soon scoring quickly and they added 55 for the first wicket before Rob Peet bowled Phillips (24). York Vale League Division One

South Cave & Brantingham 207-4, Selby III 208-7

Selby third team clinched the Division One title on Saturday with a three wicket win over South Cave & Brantingham in a high scoring game at Sandhill Lane.

The visitors, who are currently bottom of the table, batted first and they took advantage of a good track to punish the Selby attack. Sam Patchett (83), Adam Lucy (76) and Oliver Pierce (18) scored the bulk of the runs as South Cave closed on a very useful 207-4 from their 40 overs.

Chasing the big total there were good knocks from skipper Steve Sherwood (12) and Sam Mason (18) but a devastating spell from Luke Holmes (5-20) saw Selby slip to 90-7 which left their long unbeaten run under real threat. Darren Hunter then came together with Neil Darley and the experienced pair turned the game round with a match winning partnership of 118. Selby reached the victory target in the 36th over with Darley finishing unbeaten on 64 and Hunter unbeaten on 70. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Richard Besley and Selby finish their season at Heslington III on Saturday.

Selby fourth team continued their improvement in Division Two with a 20 run win at Hemingbrough II on Saturday.

Batting first Selby lost early wickets despite a useful 17 from Alfie Harper. There was some good bowling from the home side with Finlay Walker taking 2-38 but the visitors recovered well with Darren Rollinson in good form. There was good support from Andy Riley (12) until he was bowled by Granville North but Senith Ruhunuge (46*) joined Rollinson and they lifted the visitors to 163-7 at the close with Rollinson finishing unbeaten on 53, which included 8 boundaries.

In reply Hemingbrough also lost early wickets with Senith Ruhunuge (2-26) and Seth Wratten (6-37) doing the damage as the home side struggled to 75-8.
