Selby I 207-9, Fairburn I 209-6
Selby first team travelled to top of the table Fairburn on Monday and produced a good all round team performance but they went down to a four wicket defeat.
Batting first Selby made their now usual good start with openers Matt Hoyle and Alex Bowden putting on 62 for the first wicket with Bowden hitting 7 fours and a six before James Pugh had him caught for a rapid 41. Rob Scarr joined Hoyle and they added 30 for the second wicket but Jake Abdy (3-37) trapped Hoyle leg before for 25. Rob Scarr (26) and Tom Shepherd (21) both batted well but the visitors slipped to 126-5 in the 29th over. Darrell Guy then held the innings together and he hit 6 fours and 2 sixes before he was bowled by Craig Piggot (2-43) for a valuable 42. Useful late runs were added by Luke Berzins (14 n.o.) as Selby closed on 207-9.
The West Yorkshire side also made a good start with Dan Murray and Tom Fraine putting on 87 for the first wicket before Luke Berzins made the breakthrough when he bowled Fraine for 37. Seven runs later James Dugher had Will Cross caught by Tom Shepherd but opener Dan Murray and Craig Piggott then added 63 for the third wicket to put the home side in a good position. Spinner Alex Langhan ended the partnership when he had Murray (79) expertly caught by Tom Shepherd and Selby continued their fightback when Shepherd had Piggott caught by Alex Bowden to reduce the home side to 160-4 in the 34th over. Jake Abdy hit a quick 27 before he was bowled by James Dugher (3-35) and he struck again when he bowled Rhys Weaver to earn the visitors a couple of bowling points but Fairburn reached the victory target in the 42nd over. Selby II 193-7, Cawood I 127
In Division Four Selby second team ended their losing run with a 66 run win over local rivals Cawood I at Sandhill Lane.
Batting first after winning the toss Selby lost a wicket in the second over when James Pullein bowled Adam Walters and Pullein (2-50) then had Graham Phillips (15) caught by Simon Toulson to leave the home side on 46-2. Jack Huddlestone (12), Joe Bugg (14) and Chris Harkin (12) all made good starts but Selby struggled to 89-5 against some tight bowling with Keith Towndrow taking 2-41. Alex Hornostaj (19) and Gareth Harvey got the innings back on track with a sixth wicket partnership of 34 and the recovery continued when Harvey (31) and Oliver Steward added 40 for the seventh wicket. Steward produced some fine shots late in the innings and he finished unbeaten on 42 as Selby closed on 193-7.
In reply Cawood lost early wickets with young bowlers Kayden Lane (2-5) and Joe Bugg (1-22) doing the damage as the visitors were reduced to 23-3. Ed Akers and skipper James Pullein staged a good recovery and they added 53 for the fourth wicket before Mark Redshaw bowled Akers for 29. Pullein (38) and Simon Toulson (18) kept Cawood in the game with some solid batting but when they were both dismissed by Redshaw the home side took control. There was some late resistance from Peter Woodhead (16) but a wicket for Harry Huddlestone and another for Redshaw (5-43) saw Cawood bowled out for 127 in the 36th over.
